RTS Performance Clutch Kit – Ford Focus MK4 (ST 2.3 EcoBoost) – Twin Friction (RTS-1256)
Description
This new Ford Focus MK4 ST Performance Clutch Kit (Focus ST MK4) by RTS Europe promises big things. The unique design combines a twin purpose friction plate utilising both organic and paddle designs with a retracting strap plate clutch assembly.
RTS unique “Twin Friction” (drive plate) has been developed using a unique flywheel side friction material whilst adopting a segmented pressure plate face. The aramid friction exhibits 50% less wear than a conventional drive plate friction material.
This material also reduces the effects of fade. Fade is the decline in the clutch system’s ability to transmit torque as operating temperatures increases. These features in combination with the previously mentioned micro-structure of spheroidal casting and ER2 technology allows the clutch kit to dissipate heat far more effectively, allowing the clutch to run cooler for longer. RTS kit has been designed with a higher clamp load enabling the clutch system to transmit 60% more torque over the standard clutch kit and is suitable for every day driving, fast road and track/circuit racing whilst maintaining user-friendly driving experience. RTS Twin Friction kit has been designed with a higher clamp load allowing.
RTSTF-1255 (Twin friction) has been designed and manufactured to significantly exceed the original clutch system whilst also maintaining OE pedal effort, thus delivering a torque capacity of 465 lbs/ft of torque.

RTS Performance Clutch Covers
Ductile Steel can be bent without breaking, hereas cast iron is brittle and breaks when bent. Ductile Steal consists of Steel, carbon, silicon, manganese, magnesium, phosphorous and sulphur. Tin and copper are also sometimes found. Ductile iron also consists of nodular graphite, which gives it flexibility. Cheaper / lower grade brands use Cast Iron covers as it’s a cheaper alternative and most often are made in either China or the Far East. Cast Iron covers are mass produced and often are designed to fit multiple applications to save on cost.
Using Rationalised designed covers results in clutch failure as we are finding many brands are now using standard Cast Clutch covers on Performance or Fast Road applications. Rationalised covers are not designed to withstand the power uprated or higher power torque levels. Rationalised covers fit a range of vehicles which all hold initially different standard levels or power. The covers are designed to hold a limited Torque capacity for various applications and cannot absorb or transfer the heat once any performance modifications are made to the vehicle. RTS Ductile Steel Clutch Covers are designed to fit each application only. We never use Rationalised designs unlike many competitive brands.
