Description

One of the other areas where hatchback cars suffer from is chassis stiffness, especially in the rear which means the rear part of the chassis can flex, this gives lateral grip but in turn means there is more grip at the back than the front so equaling under-steer (we are simplifying a bit here, but you get the point). This flex also means the chassis essentially ‘loads’ up in hard cornering (a bit like a spring) meaning that mid corner lifting off the throttle generates quite entertaining over steer. By stiffening up the rear of the chassis with a cage the car becomes more predictable under load so we better dial our handling traits with the suspension, this means we can minimise under-steer and maximise grip.

Our half cage is exactly that, a bolt in solution (absolutely NO chassis cutting is needed) that is a permanent fix to the car but is easily removed for re-sale with nearly no evidence of its installation (one hole is cut in one piece of parcel shelf trim only and this can easily be replaced). Unlike a lot of cages the rear passengers remains in complete safety, the cage has been designed to maximise headroom in the rear, and uses only motorsport specification steel and fixings including recessed bolts and covers. The cage comprises of 5 pieces; the roll over hoop, two side sections, a harness bar and an optional cross bar which can be added or removed for track days etc, with the cross bar out the rear seats remain perfectly usable.

The harness bar is central to the cage and allows the use of harness in the car simply by folding the seats down (can’t be used with rear passengers obviously) these simply store back in the boot when not in use. These can safely be used with the standard RS seats.

The cage is available complete painted black or white. You can add the cross bar as an option using the drop down menu and for colour coded painting (Performance Blue or Ultimate Green) do the same. Installation takes about 4-5 hours and comes complete with templates for drilling of holes (10 only) to bolt the cage to the chassis.
