Product code: KSPORT/ST250/380

Description

K Sport big brake kits provide the ultimate in stopping power for your vehicle. Integrating new brake technology into the design of the kits allows for a kit that highly reduces brake fade and continually cools and refreshes the brake pads surface under braking. These brake systems are designed for easy installation with minimal tools required (in most applications).

THE KSPORT BIG BRAKE KIT INCLUDES:

  • 4.6 or 8 piston calipers
  • Stainless steel brake lines
  • Machine aluminum hats
  • Pair of braided brake lines
  • Full fitting kit
  • Fitting guide
  • CNC machined aluminium bells
  • Discs from 286mm to 400mm
  • Pair of lightweight strong aluminium calipers
  • Pair of race specification rotors
  • Pair of lightweight aluminium bells
  • Pair of steel brackets

Brake Pads:

EBC Redstuff: Good value for money road pad, low dust

EBC Yellowstuff: Superb value all rounder, great manners on both road and track

EBC Bluestuff: Excellent value for money track pad with good fade resistance

Ferodo DS250: Excellent fast road pad, the OE choice for many manufacturers

Pagid RS29: track and road pad, high resistance to fade, excellent feel, superb longevity and excellent cold bite

Pagid RST3: Premium track and road pad, excellent longevity, excellent feel, best outright performance with excellent cold bite

Rotors:

  • Grooved rotors are lighter than plain, a significant gain as its unsprung rotational mass so gives improvements in the cars handling, agility, ride quality and the performance of the suspension and improved acceleration and braking
  • Brake rotor cooling improved at all speeds. The faster the speed the greater the temperature differential between plain and drilled
  • Increased braking output at all speeds for the same pedal pressure
  • More stable braking performance with more consistant pedal feel and reduced pedal travel at all temperatures. Upto 37% greater brake output at higher temperatures for the same pedal pressure compared to plain rotors
  • Drilled rotors prevent the pads from glazing unlike plain rotors
  • 27% better wet braking performance at lower pedal pressures as the holes allow superior water dispersal allowing proper pad to rotor contact
  • Lower pedal pressure compared to plain mean less caliper flex so reduced radial taper wear
  • Reduction in hot spots and pad deposits compared to plain leading to a reduction in judder

BENEFITS OF A KSPORT BIG BRAKE KIT
The standard braking system in a production car is designed to work within certain parameters. They are designed to give consistent strong cold bite and to have the ability to stop the car from high speed in an emergency. Most braking systems will withstand some degree of spirited driving and repeat hard stops but it generally doesn’t take much to push the original braking system past its limits.

Spirited driving and braking generates heat. Generate too much heat and the original specification brake pads can no longer cope and their coefficient of friction drops rapidly resulting in brake fade.

The symptom of brake fade is a braking system that no longer generates retardation in direct relation to the pressure exerted on the brake pedal, i.e. the car no longer slows faster as you apply more force to the brake pedal.

The pedal feels wooden and braking performance drops off a cliff so that no matter how hard to press the pedal the car no longer slows at an appreciable rate.

The second casualty of heat is the performance of the brake fluid which, in a standard braking system, is of a relatively low temperature boiling point. The heat generated by hard, prolonged and repeat braking is conducted through the brake pads, through the calipers pistons into the brake fluid.

Once the brake fluid is heated past its boiling point gas bubbles are produced. In its fresh state brake fluid is not compressible so when you press the brake pedal the fluid transfers this force to caliper piston movement so pushes the pads onto the rotors generating braking force.

Gas, however, is compressible so when the fluid boils and generates gas the driver finds himself faced with a brake pedal that moves but this movement is not transferred into caliper piston movement so the car doesn’t slow down at its normal rate. In extreme conditions the brake pedal can go straight to the floor with no appreciable piston movement so virtually no braking effect at all.

The KSport big brake kits are designed to cope with the heat generated by extreme braking on the road or track. Where as the standard braking system will quickly overheat and no longer perform the KSport brake kits will dissipate this heat so keeping the braking system within its operating parameters allowing you, the driver, to brake for much longer and much harder. It is extremely unlikely that a driver will find the limits of a KSport braking system if they choose the right kit to suit their needs, no matter if the car is a road car, race car or sprint car.

This frees you up to enjoy the performance of your vehicle without having to hold back on the braking effort used or cut your track time short due to a fading braking system. With a set of KSport brakes you can concentrate on maximising the cars performance knowing with full confidence that every time you hit the brake pedal the car will stop progressively and consistently.

XTREME LIGHTWEIGHT CALIPERS:
The brake calipers start life as a piece of billet A6061 aluminium alloy that is heated to 450° then forged into the basic caliper shape in a press.

The excess material is removed then the calipers are CNC machined to the final shape on the KSport factory floor.

Once machined the calipers go through a variety of checks including piston bore diameter, caliper centre width and mounting bolt hole diameter and true. The calipers then go into the paint shop where they are painted in red, black, yellow or orange as a no cost option or customers can choose from 20,000 Dupont paint codes so they can match the caliper colour to your vehicle.

The paint is baked at 200° to ensure durability. The factory can also finish the calipers in plated gold, chrome or titanium if you want to go for some serious bling. Before the calipers are assembled the pistons are checked for surface roughness, parallel, diameter of body and O-ring size.

Once assembled the calipers are connected to a high pressure air line and dipped in water to ensure they are leak-proof. The single-piece forged process reduced the weight of the caliper and increases strength. Even the caliper pad retaining bridge was designed to maximise caliper rigidity and is a substantial piece of aluminium that acts as an additional brace. Rigidity is important.

If the caliper isn’t rigid then when you press the brake pedal and force fluid down to the caliper then instead of that pressure directly acting by pressing on the pads onto the rotor some of the force goes into spreading the caliper apart leading to softer brake feel.

Original brake lines are changed to braided for the same reason, you want the pedal force going into brake force, not into expanding original rubber brake lines. The forged monoblock design ensures maximum strength and lowest weight. Weight is important as the brakes are unsprung so even minor weight savings make a big difference to the cars ride quality and handling in the same way that lightweight forged wheels give significant benefits over heavier designs.

HIGH PERFORMANCE ROTORS:
The brake discs are produced by casting the raw material at 300° then processing via a CNC lathe and milling machine.

The disc is zinc coated to prevent rust then checked for surface roughness, that the pad faces are parallel and true (runout), hardness etc. The bell is CNC machined from the same billet A6061-T as the calipers and then anodised black.

The bell and disc are assembled then checked for eccentricity to ensure the bell is centralised and for run out to ensure the disc runs true. The assembly is then checked for balance as you would do with a car wheel when a new tyre is fitted.

This ensures that there is no vibration at high speed or under braking and that the car runs as smoothly as possible.

WHATS IN THE BOX:

The KSport brake kit includes everything you will need except brake fluid and pads.

The KSport brake kit includes everything you will need except brake fluid and pads. We dont include pads as we believe its better that you choose the best pad to suit your need rather than force a potentially unsuitable set of pads on to you and then you having to buy a second set that are actually suitable for what youll be doing with the car
